This new K-8 interdistrict magnet school can accommodate 660 students and was constructed on a 13-acre brownfield site that once housed Proctor and Gamble. The building includes 45 teaching spaces (classroom, art, science, etc.), music/band rooms, an auditorium, gymnasium, media center and cafeteria/kitchen.
Education in the school is based on an environmental science theme. In keeping with this theme, the facility was designed to achieve a LEED silver rating and utilizes many environmental systems to achieve this goal. Among the environmentally friendly features utilized are a "green” roof that covers approximately half of the building, an HVAC system that utilizes ice storage, waterless and water saving systems, a parking lot and roof rainwater retention system for gardens, wind turbine power and passive solar lighting systems.
